The cars of The Coatesville Vintage Grandprix
I love racing. The sights, smells, the speed and the spectacle that most racing creates.
But there is something special about Vintage Racing. There are SO many varieties of cars that show up at these events. The shapes of the cars are different then what you see now. They sound different, they run different. Everything from vintage Ferraris, Porsches, a Shelby Daytona, to things you’ve never seen before, get to stretch their legs once again.
2018 was the second year for the Coatesville Grand Prix and it got even better.
Getting to the Coatesville GP early is a must. There is a quietness to the town in the early hours. Just the quiet sounds of the vintage cars unloading and the occasional engine firing up, echoing through the city. The Fall light is beautiful this time of year and shines on these cars and the old forgotten town of Coatesville has a magical glow to it. This is good time to get up and close to these old gems and talk to their current owners.
Its a perfect setting to host the Vintage tin that scream thru it streets.
Downtown Coatseville architecture is also Vintage. The buildings date from the mid-18th century to 1937, with most built between 1850 and 1924. They are mostly two- and three-story commercial buildings constructed of brick. They harkin back to the days of wealth when the steel mills in this area flourished.
One of the benefits of the Coatesville Vintage Grandprix is to help stoke the restoration of downtown Coatesville. These vintage relics of speed are a perfect fit in this city. Not many places would shut down a city to have a Vintage Grand Prix through it.
But the stars of the show are these amazing rolling works of art.
