Porsche revealed their new 2023 992 GT3 RS beauty of a car today! So many new features making it the most extreme version of Porsche’s track day car to date.
The 992 is getting active aero for the first time, carbon fiber components everywhere, a 518-horsepower naturally aspirated flat-six and say goodbye to the Frunk with the new hardcore cooling systems in its place.
Lets talk aero first. The wing is probably the first thing that grabs your attention. It sits higher then the cars roofline for the first time on a production Porsche. It has a fixed main wing with a hydraulically adjustable upper blade that serves as part of the car’s DRS (Drag Reduction System) like you would find on an F1 car. It can be used like an air brake under braking when closed and opened up under acceleration for less drag.
The Front end also has active aero under the front wing that can be adjusted 80 degrees in a 3/10’s of a second. By rotating the flap it can achieve maximum downforce.
The cooling system has eliminated the front trunk with its flow thru single radiator design instead of the 3 radiators they used to have. Hence its Mono Radiator Concept name.
More Aero design in the hood and the roof fins directing the heat of the radiator up and off to the sides so it does not get picked up by the engine intake.
The steering wheel is incredible with adjustments that you’d fine on top race cars. There is a button for the DRS, plus four rotary dials for drive mode settings. Including the controls for Rebound and compression settings on the front and rear axles and also adjustments for the rear differential.
Shaving weight from an already light car was key for this model. Carbon Fiber is everywhere, with the roof, doors, wing and even some suspension parts being done in Carbon fiber.
