1969 Datsun 2000 Roadster | SEMA Young Guns Builder Winner
SEMA BATTLE of the BUILDERS - YOUNG GUNS WINNER
Connor Mcelvain was on his last year of eligibility (age 29) as a Young Gun for the SEMA Show’s Battle of the Builders competition. So the pressure was on to enter his beautifully done, hand built 1969 Datsun 2000 Roadster into the mix. Turns out he won the competition!
I saw this thing about a half hour into my SEMA trip and was blown away with the level of ingenuity and craftsmanship he has into it.
He told me that it was built in his smaller home garage and finished right at the deadline to get it to SEMA. He did an initial shakedown run, then loaded it onto his trailer and drove it straight to Vegas from Wisconsin. It took him 27 hours to get it there, about an hour and a half before the check in to SEMA.
A partial list of his design details are, a one off built from scratch frame he designed in CAD. Cantilever suspension on both the front and rear. Tasteful billet pieces everywhere and his influences from his Hot Rodding experience, combined with vintage Japanese racing touches.
They are too many to list here, but you can hear Connor describe them in our video. Which I hope you will check out.
You can see more of Connor’s work on his Instagram page.
